Frequently Asked Questions
Review the Submissions page of this web site and then email the publisher at publisher@SixDegreesPublishing.com a query letter/cover letter including a synopsis of your publication and the status of your manuscript.
What happens once my manuscript is accepted?
We will email you a checklist of specific steps and requirements for publication, a contract to review and set a time for a conference to go over questions and concerns.
Are there restrictions on the type of material you accept for publication?
Yes. We do not publish material deemed by us to include hate material targeting groups or individuals, occult books and material, books that in any way explicitly describe sexual acts by children under the age of 18 or any material we feel has no redeeming social value. We specifically reserve the right to reject any manuscript with or without reason.
All work must be original by the author. The author must attest that the works are his or her own and that he or she owns the rights to digitally publish it. Manuscripts must be proofread and sufficiently edited for punctuation, grammar, organization and spelling. Manuscripts must be submitted in MS Word format by email or flash drive.
What guidelines do I need to adhere to?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of EPUB vs Adobe PDF?
PDF files are best suited for books that contain pictures or photographs. The PDF is a snapshot of your page. PDF books have page numbers. They work well with desktop computer monitors, but not as well on eReaders and Tablets because the reader must scroll the page, which can be cumbersome. EPUB files adapt to the format of the specific eReader and Tablet. The reader can zoom in and out. No page numbers exist. EPUB is the new standard in digital conversion to ebooks. At this time, it is best used for publications that do not use photographs. It is not appropriate for coffee table photo books.
How many books will I sell?
Are you a self-publishing company or a traditional publisher?
Neither. We are a hybrid small independent publisher. Because we are a publisher, not a self-publisher, we accept only well-written material that has been thoroughly proofread and edited for punctuation, clarity and organization.

By comparison, a self-publishing company normally will accept any manuscript without feedback or quality assurance as to content, marketing, distribution suggestions, editing and layout. A traditional publisher typically uses its resources to publish, promote, make the author known and controls all aspects of the book including cover price and content. With enormous overhead and return policies, traditional publishers are at high risk and therefore are unable to provide generous profit sharing or royalties.

Our business model allows return of a larger percent of royalties to the author and allows the author to obtain professional publisher services based upon actual production and service costs. The costs depend upon the manuscript length, condition of the formatting, printing expenses, distribution options and the time involved in preparing it for production. This method of publishing is best suited for authors who are confident in the appeal of their book to readers, know their market and do not want to self-publish and prefer to keep a higher percentage of their royalties from the sales of their books.
The number or books you sell depends on how appealing your subject matter is to the public, whether you actively promote your books through social media, a blog, web site and other means, and how well written the material is. The importance of taking an active role in promoting your book cannot be over-emphasized.
